Handle network messages:
The CyD Careful Observer network monitor can perform specified actions when network messages (remote computer got down or got alive) occur. At this moment the monitor can play a sound file to attract your attention to the problem or save error information to the windows log. You can configure the program to do the both things. The CyD CarefulObserver network monitor allows you to perform next actions:
- Play sound file.
- Save error information to the Windows log.
- Send error information to remote administrator by e-mail.
Network message handles creation
To create a new message handle open Network item properties dialog box. To do that select the network item you want to add the handler to and select the Edit selected item from the Item menu or press the
button on the toolbar. Switch to the Warnings tab page:
One network item may contains several message handlers. You may add one play sound file processor and 10 e-mail senders. Press the Add button
to add a new message handler. A Choose message processor dialog window will be displayed:
In this dialog window you have to choose a kind of the message handler. The kind is configured at creation time and cannot be changed. You may delete the handler and create a new one. CyD CarefulObserver 2009 SP1 supports 3 kinds of message handlers:
- Play a sound when the message occurs.
- Write the message text to windows log.
- Sent email to a person.
Choose the appropriate kind of network handlers and press OK. A message processor edition dialog box will be displayed. The form of the dialog box depends on the selected message kind. The next controls always exist in the dialog box:
- General – on the tab you may see general parameters of the message:
- Name – the name of the message handler. The parameters may describe the action but may be null. It is for information only.
- Catch messages – what kind of message you want to catch: All, Alive (when the host got alive) или Dead (when the host got down).
- Alive – the message occurs when the host got alive.
- Dead – the message occurs when the host got alive.
Sound notification
Sound notification allows you to set sound that would be played when network message occurs. play sound when network messages occur. On the Aliva and Dead pages you may choose one of built-in sound scheme or select your own sound file (wav format). To choose your own file select the ExternalFile in the Sound scheme combo box and type the full file path in the File name field.
Writing to Windows log
Writing to Windows log may be very useful for professional administrators. There are many utilities that allow you to work with the logs.
If writing to Windows log is selected on the Alive or Dead page you may type message that will be saved in the log file. You may use the next templates in the windows log text:
- %COMPUTERNAME% - the template will be replaced with the host name.
- %COMPUTERADDRESS% - the template will be replaced with the host address.
E-mail message sending
This message kind is useful for remote administrators when monitoring program which is working on the dedicated server. The notification may be useful with e-mail addresses such as Windows Live. If you use one the Windows Live Messenger program will inform you as soon as e-mail message get in your box. It allows you to respond on network messages efficiently.
In the message processor properties window you may configure the next properties. On the General tab page you have to set e-mail addresses:
- Message from - sender's e-mail address. Notification e-mails will be sent from thes address. We recommend you to set a real one. If you set an unreal address, your mail box may treat with the messages from the address as spam.
- Message to - the e-mail address that will get notification e-mail. We recommend you to add the e-mail address from the Message from field to the Message to contacts.
On the Alive and Dead pages you have to set the subject text and the text of the e-mail message that will be send to the e-mail recipient. You may use the next templates in the message text:
- %COMPUTERNAME% - the template will be replaced with the host name.
- %COMPUTERADDRESS% - the template will be replaced with the host address.
To send e-mails you have to configure SMTP server properties that will be used to send e-mail messages in the Program properties.
